NILA MASALA

Nila Masala born in Sassari (Sardinia, Italy) in 1973, she obtained a lyric singing diploma from the “Luisa D’Annunzio” conservatory of Pescara and since 2000 to 2004, she taught singing for the musical association for peace “Bottega Ars Musicalis” in L’Aquila and Pescara. She improved her singing skills at the international athenaeum of lyric singing of Sulmona and attended the prestigious training lessons for opera singers organised by the following teacher: Mirella Freni, Gianni Raimondi, Gabriella Tucci and Dario Lucantoni. Nila has been a member of a band called “Trio Nice” (soprano and 4-hands piano) since its creation. Between 2000 and 2006, she participated to the Marrucino theatral choir of Chieti. She started in the role of Bianca in “The Villegne” of G. Albanese in Ortona. She was the Countess in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro at Vasto theatre (Chieti region). She was the soloist singer of a personal project « Natalina in America between Gershwin and Broadway », at the Marrucino theatre of Chieti in 2005. Soloist singer in  “Passio and Resurrectio” of S. Rendine at the San Giustino cathedral of Chieti in 2006, she was also a soprano soloist in Rossini’s « Petite Messe Solennelle» and in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in Bari. She sang in Petruzzelli’s theatre of Bari foundation choir and in Lecce’s choir. In Lugano, she sang as a soloist for a series of concerts organized by Ticino Musica. She frequented various vocal technique and interpretation masterclasses with Sherman Lowe with which she studied and improved her soloist repertory.

She obtained the 1st prize of the IInd “Cappuccilli – Patanè – Respighi” international contest and afterwards, the 1st prize of the prestigious XIIIth “Ritorna Vincitor” international lyric singing contest of Ercolano. She obtained the 2nd prize of the “Matera, Città dei Sassi” lyric contest and also in the « Città di Adelfia » (Bari) lyric contest. She frequented the Accademia Harmonica of Modena with artists such as A. Patalini, S. Ganassi, L. D’Intino et L. Gorla. She obtained an academic subsidy for a project called “La Bottega delle Voci” at the theatre of Mesagne which allowed her to attend a masterclass organized by the baritone G. De Corato and the soprano Luciana Serra. She frequented lessons at the “Accademia del Mediterraneo”, guided by the masters Enzo Di Matteo and Claudio Desderi. In the July 2008, she made a duet with Albano Carrisi during the evening dedicated to Domenico Modugno in S. Pietro Vernotico (Brindisi). She was the soloist of a lyrical-theatral recital “Vissi d’arte, vissi d’amore” (I loved for art, I lived for love) for the «Mediterranean Opera Festival» in 2008 for the 150th birthday of Puccini, she was the Countess in the Marriage of Figaro in Ruvo di Puglia (Bari) in August 2008.

She won the IInd “Napoli, Voce del Mediterraneo” Romance Contest in Naples, she also won the prestigious “Puccini Prize” during the 14th international “Rolando Nicolosi” singing contest in Rome. In 2009, she frequented the “Accademia Pucciniana” of Torre del Lago, guided by the master Luigi Roni. During the lyric season of Lecce, she was the Countess of Ceprano in Verdi’s Rigoletto produced by Vittorio Sgarbi, she also played Nella in Gianni Schicchi by Puccini, produced by Mario Corradi. For the 55th Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago, she played the role of Manon as a cover in the new version of Manon Lescaut co-produced with the Opera of Nice, she sang in other concerts for the Festival at the same period. In August, she debuted as Santuzza in the Rustic Chivalry during the 40th lyric season of Lecce. She was invited by the Symphonic Orchestra of Mexico for a series of concerts as a soloist in October. In November, she started as the Princess Turandot in the following theatres: Novara, Mantova and Lucca.

In the December 2009 she has performed, for the Vatican, a series of concerts in London in aid of charity, and in the ‘Teatro del Giglio’ in Lucca in a show entirely dedicated to Puccini.In the February 2010 she sang in two Grand Opera Gala for Opera season in Lecce. In the 8th of May she was again Santuzza at the Superga Theater in Nichelino, Dir. C. M. Micheli. In the 16th of May she has debite in the role of Suor Angelica in the new Auditorium in Torre del Lago Puccini, Dir. Valerio Galli, directed by Vivien Hewitt. In the 25th of May she interpreted in a lyric recital dedicated to Mascagni, in the National Library in Napoli, Palazzo Reale; the event was attended by the heirs of the composer. In the 28th of May she sang in the Gala Puccini as Artist of the Festival in Torre del Lago; at the ‘Estate Regina 2010’, the Musical Festival in Montecatini Terme.

In the 18th of June she opened the Summer Symphony Season in Lecce, in West Side Story of L. Bernstein, Dir. Marcello Panni. In the 20th of July she has replicated “Le Donne di Puccini” in Pistoia (with the special partecipation of the great actor Ugo Pagliai, in the role of Maestro Puccini) and, in the 19th of August, in Marina di Pietrasanta at the 31th Festival “La Versiliana”. She was cover of the star soprano for all the titles at the 56th Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago: La Fanciulla del West, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Turandot. She rose on the big stage of Torre del Lago in the role of Princess Turandot, in the 12th and 20th of August. She debuted as Floria Tosca in the 24th and 26th of September in Ercolano, in the beautiful scenery of Villa Campolieto, dir. Alberto Veronesi. She will open the next Opera Season in Lecce at the Teatro Politeama Greco, in the role of Minnie in ‘La Fanciulla del West’ of Puccini.
